This article encouraged you to take 5 uninterrupted minutes and talk about yourself to a friend or your husband, or even if you just journal for those 5 minutes. When talking about yourself you couldn't mention your children or husband, that was the only rule. Well, you know I love a good list and you know I love to blog so what better way for me to approach this?
I took the challenge and put a different spin on it. I challenged myself to come up with 10 things about myself (separate from being a mom or a wife) in just 5 minutes. 10 little quirks or things that would make good "ice breakers." 10 things that people might not know about me.
- I am the only girl on either side of my family. On my moms side there are 5 grandchildren (4 boys and myself) and on my dads side there are 4 grandchildren (3 boys and myself). IF I am spoiled it is no fault of my own. So yes, that means BK was the first girl in 24 years and for this reason Allen is convinced that we will have a house full of girls.
- I love a vacation. There is nothing in this world I wouldn't give up budget-wise to go on a trip.Okay, I lied. I'm not giving up my blonde hair. But anything else, eating out, new clothes, new shoes, I'll wear cheap make-up just let me keep my salon visits.
- I sing really loud in the car. For some reason I think louder means better. I turn the radio up loud and sing loud and a strange thing happens, I sound just like the person on the radio. Crazy, huh? :)
- Teaching has always been my clear career path. My second choice? A lawyer.
- I am overly sensitive at times and I find myself wishing I had "thicker skin" more times than I care to think about. I just don't like mean people. Period.
- I have an impeccable sense of discernment about people I meet. It's almost creepy at times.
- I am a people-pleaser like no other. I want to make everyone happy and I sometimes put myself out to do it. It seems like a good quality, but there definitely has to be some balance. Read: I need to say "no" more.
- Decorating my house is the bain of my existence. I buy random stuff hoping that it will go together and when it doesn't I just put it in the basement. We have so many random home furnishings, I could probably make bank at a garage sale.
- The great outdoors? You can keep those. Every time I have ever been camping I woke up to a sinus infection the next morning. Which I'm pretty sure means I'm allergic.
- I am annoyingly OCD about plans. You can't just tell me that we're going to do something next weekend. I need to know when, where, what time, who is going, how I should dress. I like the deatails, I can't help it.

What a great challenge and something I definitely need to do. Not sure if you ever read Mek Meeker but she also has a mother challenge right now.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this post! I'm also crazy OCD about plans. I wish I could be one of those really easy going people...but I'm just not. =/ My idea of camping is The Hampton Inn. I just don't do outdoors...
ReplyDeleteYour hair is gorgeous & I'd love to know where you get it done. I live in the Montgomery area now but still drive to Pell City (where I'm from) to get my hair done.
Jennifer, are you kidding me? No wonder we get along so well! Everyone of these to the t, except for number 1, could have been about me...seriously! I didn't realize we were so alike!
ReplyDeleteI'm a people pleaser and am often overly sensitive too, so I can relate.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I'm a plan girl. Everything is on my calendar and if we make plans I must now all the deets asap.
Love this idea.
Great list. I have some of those same qualities. I'm not really outdoorsy, and would give up almost anything for a good vacation. I'm working on thicker skin thing, too.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to do a blog post about this tonight.
I might have to steal this idea.. Of course I will give u credit! Great post!! Me and you are very much alike.
ReplyDeletePeople pleasers
Sense of discerment
Overly sensitive
Singing loudly
Teaching path
Are you my long lost sister?.. ha! Have a wonderful weekend with that gorgeous family of yours.
we totally need to hang out ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm also an amazing singer. Ah-mazing ;)
Also, not outdoorsy. I consider camping a Holiday Inn. That's as "roughing it" as I'm going to get!
I'm going to copy this post...well....I mean the topic - I'll write about me, of course ;) and you and I are just so much alike it's CRAZY! Except for the shoes thing. I think shoes for me are right alongside hair highlights.
ReplyDeleteOn another note, we have a BUNCH of rugs (and things) in the basement. Jon calls it the rug cemetery because I keep buying rugs to replace other rugs but I never want to throw them out. I throw out almost everything else, mind you. But not rugs. I'm insane.
Wow, I could have written 8 of the 10 things on your list....I'm not the only girl & I'm not a teacher. But the others...people pleaser, loud singer, OCD, LOVES vacation....yep all me. :)
