One of my biggest downfalls when it comes to dieting is snacking. Meal times generally aren’t a problem for me but in between meals, specifically between lunch and dinner, I have a huge problem with reaching for something unhealthy from the pantry.
I used to be a huge water drinker and then I discovered the diet Coke with vanilla from Sonic. And what I know about diet Coke and artificial sweeteners is that it can actually make me crave sugar as my blood sugars become unstable. There is a laundry list of other things that can be attributed to diet Coke, you can read about them here.
On Monday I decided I would be more diligent with my water drinking throughout the day. I mixed up a gallon (yes, that’s a lot of H2O) and set a goal to drink the whole gallon over the course of the day.
And a crazy thing happened. I stuck to Paleo, I didn’t want to snack throughout the day, and I felt full. So each day this week I drank a gallon of this water and I didn’t find it difficult to stick to the diet and I wasn’t ravenous by dinnertime.
1 gallon water
1/2 cup 100% unsweetened cranberry juice concentrate
2 tablespoons of milled flax seed
You’ll want to shake it up throughout the day because the flax seed doesn’t dissolve.

I really need to try this. I have the same issues with snacking. And I crave sugar every second of the day! I don’t really drink diet pop, but I drink a TON of those artificially sweetened, zero calorie water enhancers.

I drink a ton of water because I too just recently kicked my fountain coke habit. I must try this mixture but what i found that helped me is I can go to McD and buy a large water with ice, a straw and lemon for 27 cents. I just tend to drink more from a straw. Crazy I know but during my work hours I will drink 2 full cups of this and that is 64 oz ๐ Of course I still drink my bottled water when I get home but this way I feel like I know exactly how much I am drinking. I really need to drink more water. After watching the show The Doctors about the side effects of Diet Coke, I can barely drink one. It made me think, “Do I really want to put that stuff in my body?” I know all the benefits of drinking water, but it’s so hard to drink 64 ounces a day. I like your idea. I will have to give it a try.

Is the flax seed really noticeable? I have a weird thing with textures but I love water. I am going to have to try this. I love lemon, mint, cucumber and ginger water – so YUM!

Target. The juice concentrate is on the juice aisle and the flax seed is with the flour on the baking aisle.
