Day 13 was a day I didn’t want to just skip up. I could have very well given you a Day 17 post today and called it done but 13 was a little more special than that.
Saturday we visited the pumpkin patch for the first time this year and I must say that taking BK to the pumpkin patch gets more fun each year. The first year was more for us, I’ll admit. She was really too small to know exactly what was going on but old enough to get a little excited about the animals. Old enough to love being outside. The second year she was able to run and play. To get excited about seeing the pumpkins and even more excited about the animals. To run freely through the corn maze and swing on the tire swings.
This year? The best by far. She led the way and we would have stayed the entire day if it weren’t for the 80 degree temperatures. It was HOT! She was giddy with excitement at all of the fun to be had at the good ol’ pumpkin patch. It was simple joy at its best. The ten dollars they charge at the gate is worth every single cent. She ran through the hay maze, this time leading the way.
She walked so far through the pumpkin patch that we didn’t even have to ride the wagon back. She carefully combed through hundreds of pumpkins until she found the one that was “jussss right for me,” or so she said.
It’s days like this one that I want to bottle up and pull out later. Sometime in the middle of a teenage argument I’ll secretly wish to twitch my nose and be back in this day of carefree fun.
What a joy it is to recognize the amazing times while I’m living them. It is my prayer that I don’t take this sweet times for granted. That I never spend one single day wishing I had done things a little better.
We’re going to the pumpkin patch again. At least once, maybe more. I’ll fill my front porch up with those orange things, the ultimate representation of fall joy. A daily reminder that joy is simple and sweet. That I shouldn’t get too caught up with all of the things in life but instead, I should savor the moments.
I’ll take that reminder any time I can get it.
Day 13 was everything sweet. It was carrying her own pumpkin, marching through the pumpkin vines, monogrammed dresses and cotton fields. It was petting a baby calf, trying to take the pumpkins from the photo props and sweet moments with my sweetest girl. Pictured above.
