This year is all about making fun little traditions in our house. I know BK won’t remember the things we do this year, but she has so much fun with them that it is completely worth the extra effort. A few months back I read about the Christmas Books Advent Calendar on Meredith’s blog. I knew this was something for us.
The first reaction I get is But, didn’t that cost a lot of money? And the answer is no. I’ve collected these books over the past few months. Some from the bookstore at the outlet mall cost as little as 99 cents. The fact that I was able to spread it out over time helped with cost as well.
I wrapped all of the Christmas books and put them in this little basket under the tree. From time to time B asks to open one during the day and I’ll say “Lets wait until Daddy gets home” and she is completely fine with that answer. I thought maybe it would be a struggle but she’s done really well about not trying to open the books until it’s time.
This picture below is so funny! I asked her to sit in front of the tree and take a picture with her new book and she literally sat as close as possible to the tree. We laughed so hard because she was more like under the tree then in front of the tree.
She sat down and read her new book with me, I can’t wait until Christmas because she was SO excited to open the book. I know Christmas morning will be full of excitement.
She’s a smart girl and points to the basket and says “books!” throughout the day. We’ve obviously lost the element of surprise ๐
This is such a fun tradition that I can’t wait to do every year. Someone even suggested wrapping books you already have. For instance, Twas the Night Before Christmas could be saved for Christmas Eve every year.
What fun traditions do you and your family have?

Love it!! This tradition is the best… Books NEVER get old or go out of style. I hope to be able to share our set with my grandkids one day! Love seeing other families bring this into their homes!! ๐

I love this idea! If you start early, you can definitely make it manageable. Are all of the books Christmas themed?

This idea is so sweet! And you’re right, if you just spread out the purchases of the books it shouldn’t hurt the wallet too bad. Thanks for sharing! I’m loving all the new ideas to start with J next year ๐

Ive seen this idea and also wondered about the cost of it. May have to do this next year when Morgan is a little more interested in it.
We have been doing the advent jesse tree which Morgan doesnt really understand the bible stories yet but she loves putting on the different ornaments.
