A few weeks ago during Spring break we made the two-hour drive to Atlanta to visit the Georgia Aaquarium. Allen and I are big kids at heart so we actually visited the aquarium a few times pre-baby. Atlanta used to be a quick weekend getaway for us and we would spend the day walking around the city, catching a Braves game or shopping around at Lenox Mall. We wondered into the aquarium and the World of Coke, rode roller coasters all day at Six Flags, frequented the Hard Rock for nachos and burgers by day and donned our finest for dinner at the Sundial at night.
For me, Atlanta brings back those carefree pre-baby days so I never thought I would say that it was more fun to go back with a two-year old. To see it all over, to do it all again (well some of it) but to see the city through a different set of eyes. Before we even got into the aquarium I knew it would be different as we walked through Centennial Olympic park and BK perked up at the sight of other children playing. It truly is the little things that make her the happiest.
We ate lunch in the ballroom upstairs where the beluga whales swim and play. She wanted nothing to do with her food, she only wanted to sit and watch the whales. Oh to be two again, I thought, without a single care in the world. And it’s times like this when I simply want time to stand still.
I know this time is fleeting but it is oh so precious. That’s why it’s so important for me to slow down and really take time to see things like she’s seeing them. To look at the world with a different set of eyes full of wonder and amazement.
I think you can really learn that way.
We went with our friends Josh and Brooke and their little girl, Reese who is only a few months older than BK. The girls were so excited and this is just when we were waiting to go inside. |
The dolphin show was a highlight and she watched quietly and in amazement. She pointed and laughed and said “look at this mommy, look at this dolphin” and then she would laugh like it was the funniest thing she’s ever said.
She missed her nap, stayed up the entire day and the ride home and slept really good that night. We went back to Daddy D’s and ate dinner afterwards.

The tunnels are seriously so cool, especially for the kiddos. We joined in too, after all she’s only this little once. |

These pictures are great! I still can’t believe we haven’t been to our aquarium yet, but to be fair, it will be a great summertime visit since it’ll be so stinking hot outside.
Btw, went to the World of Coke as a child (family in Atlanta) and it is one of my favorite things ever!

I love the GA aquarium, but last time I went the Dolphin exhibit still hadn’t opened. But my favorite remains the TN aquarium…I dont know why, because it doesn’t have the huge window tank like Georgia does. Still TN is magical – will y’all ever take her there?

I love her outfit and the last picture of you guys! I think you know that I joined reading your blog when I found it and noticed that B was born very close to my bff’s baby boy’s birthday. I’ve been following ever since and it’s great to see her progress, as well as give me insight as to where her little boy is.
